Rik Cordero is a filmmaker and community-validated music video director that's the creative genius behind Three/21 Media — a fresh, innovative production company that's churned out low cost, rugged, grimey, but overwhelmingly appealing music videos for artists like Jay-Z, Q-Tip, Consequence, Nas, The Roots and others. In fact, many of the videos published on EatAddict are from his portfolio. While he's been collecting buzz for over a year now, there's also been backlash from filmmakers that argue that he's beating down budgets and cannibalizing their craft. Rik speaks on it...
I wholly agree. Music video budgets declined a long time ago. You can easily correlate it to the depletion of record sales due to piracy. My brother was in the industry for 10 years working with the same artists Cordero has on his resume. He spotted the downshift years ago and side-stepped out the game. Amidst a dying record industry, he/she who makes diamonds from doo-doo will eat well; don't hate Cordero for getting a jumpstart on everyone else.
